AURORA CRYSTAL FACT SHEET

AZOTIC COATING TECHNOLOGY has combined nature and science to bring some of the most vibrant colors available to the world of minerals and jewelry. A team of vacuum coating engineers have developed a technique by which titanium, one of the strongest metals known to man, and quartz, among other minerals, can be bonded together at a molecular level. As it happens, quartz has a strong affinity to titanium and the two materials readily accept each other, acting as one after the bonding process occurs. This process, known to scientist as magnetron ionization, occurs in nature as the AURORA BOREALIS. The brilliant color of AURORA CRYSTALS is the result of optical interference effects produced by layers of titania.

The process uses only electricity to deposit the titanium layers. Since only electricity is used to create these colors, very little heat is involved and the integrity of the crystal is maintained. The crystal does not become brittle or prone to breakage as with other enhancements. The process in no way harms the environment with hazardous chemicals or byproducts.

The interference colors on the AURORA CRYSTALS is caused by the same optical phenomena that brightens peacock feathers and creates an oil film on water.

FACTS ABOUT TITANIUM. AZOTIC C0ATING TECHNOLOGY, INC. combines the metal Titanium with Oxygen to create Aurora Crystals. Ti is the tenth most common element in the Earth's crust. Ti is Atomic #22. Ti possesses some very uncommon properties. It is strong and durable. It has the strength of steel while weighing half as much. Ti will take 3000 degrees to melt and it resists most common acids. Ti is the aerospace metal of choice.

When the oxide film falls within certain limits of thickness, the phenomena of optical interference produces colors which vary according to the thickness of the film. The colors are produced in a set order as the thickness changes. These beautiful iridescent colors are hard and permanent refractive oxides. The colors are permanent as long as the oxide film stays intact. Dirt and grease films on the surface will cause the colors to appear dull or fading. Simply wash off the dulling surface oils with soap and water (using no abrasives) and blot dry with a clean paper towel. This will restore the colors to their original luster and brightness.

AURORA CRYSTAL COATING IS PERMANENT. Since the titanium and the mineral are chemically bonded, AURORA CRYSTAL COATING is there to stay unless the crystal somehow gets broken or chipped at which point the natural color of the crystal will show. Like any other crystal, AURORA CRYSTALS SHOULD BE HANDLED WITH CARE.

AURORA CRYSTALS CAN BE CLEANED using a toothbrush with a mild detergent and water. Minerals in the water will add another optical coat to the crystal, much like a water stain on a glass. To avoid this, you may dry the crystal with a towel or use a blow dryer to remove the water molecules from the crystal. Ultrasonic cleaners have been used with no change in color, but we do not recommend it. Abrasives should never be used on AURORA CRYSTALS.

AURORA CRYSTALS CAN BE ELECTROFORMED, but a lacquer or microshield must be used on the crystal to protect it from the chemicals used in the electroforming process. When the electroforming is complete, the lacquer or microshield can be easily removed with acetone. Any lacquer or microshield left on the crystal will produce another optical film causing a dull finish. Proper care must be taken to remove all traces of the lacquer or microshield. The lacquer or microshield should never be baked onto the crystal.

AURORA CRYSTALS MAKE EXCELLENT AQUARIUM FURNITURE. The natural magnification properties of water make AURORA CRYSTALS ideal for aquarium use. The bonded titanium, is chemically inert and does not interact with fresh water, salt water or the bleach used for cleaning. Fish are absolutely safe in aquariums which contain AURORA CRYSTALS.
